Cruise control

I have a 2001 XKR Today the cruise control stopped working. The light comes on on the switch but will not engage. I then found if I adjusted the speed with the cruise control switches on the steering wheel the cruise control engages and can be adjusted up and down.Any idears what could be the problem. No faults showing.

The first port of call for erratic cruise engagement is the brake light switch. It is a pain to change because access is awkward but it can be done. Try observing when the cruise control works and doesn't work. If the brake pedal has been touched in between, it may give you a clue whether the switch is faulty. Mike.
