Problems after battery change

Postby bobhayne » Thu Jul 07, 2011 8:52 pm

Unfortunately I have had to replace the battery on our 1997 XK8 Conv. I followed the correct procedure (earth off first and on last) and all seemed well but the door would not subsequently unlock using either of the two remote fobs. Can only open using keys and have to disable alarm via ignition. Is this a common fault? Or have both remote fobs failed at the same time? Grateful for any suggestions/advice.

Thanks, Bob

Bob

In all probability the Key Fobs need re-programming

If you have 2 Fobs you MUST do both at same time or the second will not work until re-programmed & if done at a later date the 1st would them be unusable.

Re-Programming instructions:
Hold the high beam flash on.
Place key in ignition, turn to position 1.
Operate the flash 4 to 5 times.
A faint chime may be heard, but the red LED on the J-gate will flash.
Press any button on the remote once, you will see the same LED on the J-gate flash again.

Turn key off and remove from ignition before operating the remote again. Remote should now be programmed.

Repeat for 2nd Fob.

Job done!

Good Luck

Allan

many thanks for your reply.

I have tried this process with each remote and on neither occasion did the LED on the J gate flash when I pressed the remote button and the Fobs subsequently did not operate

I have tried again having replaced the battery on one remote and it still does not work.

Any further ideas?

Many thanks!

Bob

The security system has a fuse in the boot (Fuse 10 on my '02)

There should be spare fuses & tool for removing Fuse inside the fuse box lid

Make sure if it has blown you replace the fuse with one of same rating and not higher

Failing that, it's down to your local friendly independent Jaguar specialist for them to put on diagnostics to trace fault

Good luck
