Code reader. which one?

Hi everybody, I want to buy a code reader, but I have no idea what type to buy, is my car obd2 ready? what is obd2? can anyone help me please, sorry to be a bit dunb on this but I am new to cars full of electronics.
My car is a 1999 XK8 convertable,

Dunno the answer to your question but a very good starting point would be to read David Marks' article on the subject on P56 of the February magazine. Far more to it than just plugging in, reading and fixing, apparently.

A very good supplier/Manufacturer is Gendan (I bought my AutoEnginuity Diagnostics system incl. Jaguar-specific DTC codes from them). You can find out a lot more from them by going onto their website: www.gendan.co.uk .

I understand a representative of that Company will also be at the Diagnostics Seminar on the 10 April.

your car is definitely OBDII compliant. As said above, the seminar might be a good entry into the mysteries of OBDII it is quite a big subject.
I would suggest you go on the gendan website, which holds quite a lot of general info on that subject and/or do a search on the Internet, just type OBDII and you should get lots of information.
