Replace the 'tell tale' LED for the rear fog lamps ?

Postby anaw » Mon Jan 18, 2010 11:58 am

Has anybody had a go at this ? Any help or advice on sourcing the correct LED would be much appreciated.
A new switch block is £160+ which seems a bit hefty for the sake of one little tell tale.
Thank you - Tony. ( B8 JXK 1997 Conv.)

Hi anaw,
The led your looking for is Part no JJLM 21555 Blue colour holder, cost £1.82 + vat.
I got mine from the Main Jaguar dealer Royals Macclesfield, Cheshire.
Any main dealer should have these in stock or to order.

The job is fiddly.

Hi Dave, many thanks for the reply and for taking the time to look out the part number for the backlighting blue bulbs, I need a couple of these.
The LED that I am trying to source however is the clear one which illuminates the tiny yellow tell-tale window in the switch, this is soldered into the circuit board.
My local Jaguar 'technician' ( fitter) tells me it can't be replaced and that I must purchase a switch block, he may be right but I can't see why.
Thanks again -- Tony.

Tony,

I wonder if it is worth a look through a Maplins catalogue for a similar spec led. Alternatively e-bay or well known Jaguar spares sources for reasonably priced second hand articles.

Given a small soldering iron and suitable heat sink equipment, you may be able to get your unit going again.

Thanks for that Mike, I'll give Maplins a try. It is interesting that fifty club members have read my original plea and none of them have advised against trying it.
Yours -- Tony.

If your unit is defective Tony, I don`t think you have much to loose by attempting a repair yourself.

If that does not work, then I would try Eurojag or similar breaker for a secondhand unit.

Hi Anaw, I have just read your reply. The Led Light is a screw fit, the bulb is clear, blue holder, this illuminates the switch. If you take the switch panel out you will see the holders. This is a fact as i replaced mine,1998
4.0 ltr Coupe.

The Agricultural Engineering Dept at Barony College assisted by a visitor from CLAAS has replaced the soldered LED in my switch block.

My thanks to all who offered advice. -- Tony.
