Wheeler Dealers TV programme next week

Postby barrywi » Thu Apr 26, 2012 3:43 pm

The TV programme Wheeler Dealers on Discovery and Discovery HD next Tuesday evening ( 1st May) is about buying and doing minor restoration of an XK8
The programme idea is that they buy a classic with minor problems cheaply, repair it and hopefully sell for a profit. This week i think the car will be a some sort of a competition prize. It is normally quite entertaining but they do not aim for full concours.

Hi Barry ,
Look out for my Antigua Blue Coupe N1XKO on the program
My car was chosen as the "pristine" car and I spent a day on the set at Longcross Track while they filmed her in action ,

All the best ,

Nik

Hi All

I love Wheeler Dealers but this one didn't really do it for me I'm afraid.

Are the brakes so poor on the XK8? If not I thought £2K for XKR brakes was rather a waste of cash, since the XK8 doesn't have the extra engine power does it need the mighty stopping power?

Also the front end......I guess if you like a matt black grille then fair enough, but Im sure I've seen kits that get the number plate down away from the grille which would have been much better IMHO.

No mention of timing chain tensioners, I'm sure Ed China must know of the problems they cause, but Im not an expert on this model so perhaps this car already had the later ones?

Nik, looks like you ended up on the cutting room floor. :?
Like all modern programmes they waste so much time reviewing what happened previously after each commercial break. I guess it means they have to produce less original material but it gets very tiresome I think. Thank goodness for the PVR!

Interesting feature on the fuel system enema tho.......I wonder if it is of real benefit, no doubt time will tell.

Best

What I did find interesting was the Fuel System De Carboniser described by Ed China as becoming available now.

It brought the hydrocarbons reading down from 500+ to under a 100

Now if thats available at the price mentioned (£79) and an hour to do, I would be interested in including it in future servicing of my own XK8

Anybody know any more about this or where it is available?

The equipment is on the net in the USA for under $3000
