Lancashire Hot Pot Run

Sunday 21st June 2009

This will be the 3rd Lancashire Hot Pot Run to explore the delights of the Lancashire countryside and following the excellent Feedback from the last Run, and the effect of the Credit Crunch on me in particular, and possibly some others in our group too, there have been a few changes to the format.

The starting point this year will be at The Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa, Blackburn Road, Clayton Le Moors, Lancashire BB5 5JP BLACKBURN. Telephone: 01254 303400. Location: Adjacent to M65 Junction 7.

As a way of controlling both the cost of the weekend and our waistlines there won't be an ‘official' dinner on Saturday evening. However, the hotel does have an excellent restaurant and the Cameo Bar serves light snacks in an informal setting. Those wishing to stay overnight at the hotel can take advantage of the Special Rate negotiated for bed and breakfast with double room occupancy @ £90 per room, or single room occupancy @ £75 per room. Ring the hotel; ask for Claire in Reservations; and tell her you are in the ‘Brennand party'. Alternatively, there are also less costly Travelodge and Premier Inn hotels in the area.

This year's route through Lancashire is 70 miles in length and takes in even more impressive and stunning scenery. In an attempt to attract better weather, mid-summer's day has been chosen and if the sun does shine, you are bound to be amazed by the open expanse of the surrounding fells and breathtaking beauty of the villages and hamlets we pass through!

Last year's feedback produced requests to eliminate lunch at the halfway point in preference to completing The Run before sitting down to a meal and getting to know one another. To respond to this suggestion it is important that we assemble before 9.15am at The Dunkenhalgh Hotel so that following the route briefing we can depart promptly at 10.00am.

The practice of forming up in groups of three cars, with a lead car for each group, has worked well and eliminated the hazards of travelling in convoy so it is proposed to use the same system again.

70 miles is far too long to go without a comfort break and an opportunity to stretch our legs. Therefore, a limited number of toilet facilities have been identified in the route notes. About halfway through the journey we will stop off at a very nice hostelry with a large a car park where we will be able leave the cars for a short break whilst we stretch our legs and have a drink.

It is expected that we will arrive for lunch around 2.00pm and the meal has been booked for 2.30pm at an excellent Inn where we will have our own dining room and offered food from an extensive menu with a wide choice of sandwiches and cooked meals at competitive range of prices.

A final option, only a short walk from the lunch venue, is a visit to a National Trust 14th Century castle, complete with gardens. Anyone wishing to walk off their lunch will be able to do so in attractive surroundings.

Note:

Having read this overview of The 2009 Lancashire Hot Pot Run if you would like to join the fun please confirm/reconfirm your interest to me asap . Then, I will forward, by e-mail, all necessary documentation, maps etc (in Microsoft Word format) for you to print copies. Do remember to bring them on the day! If you cannot print documents let me know when you confirm your attendance and I will provide hard a copy.

I look forward to seeing again those of you that have been before, and to meeting those who are making an appearance for the first time.

Kind regards,
John Brennand

For anyone not acquainted with John's hot pot runs, they are great fun. Like the beer, John's hot pot runs reach the places that no other runs find! I'll look forward to seeing more details as soon as they're available. Mike. :D

Hello John,

I am a new member of JEC and have been told that your Hot Pot Run is one not to be missed! Had a quick look at the photos on the Swallow website (Ribblehead viaduct etc) and would certainly like to join you on the 21st June. I have a 2002 4.0 Litre XK8.

Cheers,

Thank you Peter for your phone call, glad that you did phone me after finding that my e-mail address quoted in the April magazine was incorrect. I'm glad that you would like to join us on 'The Run' and I will let you, and everyone else that has already expressed an interest in coming, have more, if not the final details in about 4 to 5 weeks time.
My correct e-mail address is: john.brennand1@btinternet.com or alternatively jb@johnbrennand.co.uk

I look forward to meeting you, possibly at Thoresby Hall.

Regards

John

Hi John

I am a new recruit to the JEC. I read about the Hot Pot Run in this month's mag. I would like to come along & look forward to meeting some fellow members in the North West. Where is the run likely to start / finish?

I am also hoping to go on the Manchester to Blackpool run, presumably there will be a few other XK8/R on this.

See You Soon

Hi John

I have not been on the forum for a while.

Just wanted to say we thoroughly enjoyed our day out on the Hot Pot Run on 21st June.

Thank you very much for all your hard work in organising the event. The scenery was fantastic, route well organised and we even got some blue skies. It was great to meet a few new people too.

Hope to catch up with you again soon and count us in for next year if you are doing another one!

Best Regards

Nick & Wendy

Hi John

We have just returned from two weeks holiday and I realised that I had not said thank you for an excellant day. Clearly a day as good as that doesn't just happen and Margaret and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

Kind regards

Margaret and Peter :
