Hi John,

If you do need to replace a lambda sensor, don't pay Jaguar prices but buy the same sensors directly from an NTK supplier, someone like HGL Motors in Hull. They will be half the price which is a good thing because, for even fuelling you should replace them in pairs (both upstream or both downstream sensors). Mike.

worthwhile knowing this as my 96 XK8 has certainly done more than 50k, didn't even know about the Lambda emission units. I assume the leaks were at spot welded joints?

I assume it's the Jag bit you've had trouble with.

If it was a steel system how many times would you have replaced it by now?

A bit of maintenance & the SS system still serviceable!

Hi Bleasie,
It's worrying that you think you are talking to yourself again! Have been busy these last few weeks being made redundant, otherwise would have sent you a reply suggesting that you check the clamps/joints on the exhaust system. Had the same fail point on my XJS facelift last year. It only just failed on the emissions and I could not believe such a small leak could make such a difference. 10 minutes tightening everything up and it passed.
Such is life, we focus on the big stuff and its often the small things that really matter that we overlook!

You've been talking to yourself all week because I've been offline! Glad you have the MoT sorted. The lesson for us all is how sensitive modern cars are to exhaust leaks. On the subject of lambda sensors, you can definitely get the exact component from an NTK supplier. I suggested HGL knowing that the garage is relatively local to you and the owner has been very helpful with fuelling queries in the past. If he hasn't the correct sensors in stock, others can get them. Last year, after a search on the internet I bought a pair for an XJS from an NTK dealer and they were identical to the OE units removed. Mike.
