I have a 99 XK8 coupe. Driver-side window drops when the door is opened but doesn't rise when closed. On re-opening the door it drops further (each time about 1-2 inches). Passenger side operates correctly. Driver-side window can be raised from inside using window switch. Any thought on what the problem is, any cure, or further tests?
Seems to have occurred during recent cold snap when window was frozen and wouldn't drop when door opened.
Driver-side window problem

This item has been aired many times on the Forum and is usually caused by the battery's voltage dropping below 12.3v, allowing the window module to lose it's memory. (More prevalent in winter when the beastS are not used so much). If it happens a lot - time to look at replacing the battery...
The fix:
Run the window down and HOLD button until you hear the thermal limit switch 'click'. (About 4 seconds usually.) Run it up and HOLD button until similar 'click'. You may need to do this one more time to ensure the memory is restored. Repeat for other window if similarly afflicted.
This procedure is listed in the handbook.

It worked for me too. The time to "click" was only about a second in my case.
I had some work done recently and the garage disconnected the battery meaning that the window memory had been lost.
These forums are so useful! Thanks very much.

You can have the keys to my Jaguar...when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.
