XK8 servicing

After umming and erring about the possible consequences at resale time, I have carried out a standard service on my 4.2 litre. Without a hoist, the few jobs listed definitely take much longer than their direct equivalents on older Jaguars. Even a simple oil change is a pain because the sump plug is at the front; the filter only comes out from below and the car is too low to empty the sump with the rear end up on ramps. That said, nothing's impossible, just awkward (so what's new, it's a Jaguar!). The best thing about doing your own servicing is the opportunity to get to know your steed better. In particular, it gave me a good opportunity to examine the potential rust traps under the front footwells. What a design boo boo! If you haven't waxoyed yours after cleaning them thoroughly, don't delay too long. Prevention is better than cure. :D

I have just had the repairs done on the plates under the footwells. See the bodywork section of this forum.

Yes, I had your comments in mind when I climbed under my car. I hadn't paid the area a lot of attention previously when I'd been underneath. It really was an after thought as far as design is concerned. Thanks for bringing up the issue. I'm sure it will help others too. Mike.
