New key needed - confused about what I'll need..

Hello everyone. I've got a 2003 4.2 XK8, and I need to get a new key for it as it only came with one when I bought it.

I know that I'll need both the correct key blade, cut to match the one I already have, but also the correct type of transpoder chip which I'll need to get programmed to the car.

I've had a look online and can get the key blanks cut fairly easily, but I don't know what kind of blade or transponder chip I have.

Hi Simon, I recall a discussion on jaguarforums.com a while ago where someone had an interesting write up.
I don't have a link, but go to the site and search for Tibbe
Meanwhile don't lose your single key! as it will be needed to clone the new one.

Thanks Alan - I'll go and have a bit of a dig around there!

I've taken the precaution of photographing my current key as should the worst happen, there are people who can duplicate it just from a photo. Hopefully that won't happen though!!

I am pretty sure Timsons now do keys and will code transponder from an existing key, may be worth going in and asking them? Alternatively, do a search for local locksmiths who can do it, at least then you can check it works as soon as it's done.

I have the XKR version of your year car and, in case you have yet to resolve the issue the part no of the transponder you need is LJE2610-BB, which I found on eBay when I needed one to add to my single offering.
If you are unable to get your key cut locally there is a company called Keymoon which provides key cutting from a photo and will provide the key code along with a new key.

Thank you for the replies, chaps. I sorted it in the end - my 2003 XK8 has the same key blades as the earlier cars - an 8-disc Tibbe.

Thanks to Roy especially because you prompted me to search for the fob part number and I found 3rd party items on eBay for a fraction of the price of a Jaguar original, and I also asked the supplier what kind of transponder chip my car had as I had provided them with the VIN for the fob. They confirmed it's an ID13 so I've got one of those on order, too. Once it all arrives, I shall get a contact on the Jaguar Forum to programme the transponder chip for me and it'll be sorted - luckily I could get the key cut from a couple of photographs.

I'll report back once it's all set up.
