I am new to the xk world and was wondering what the view on aftermarket parts are?

Are they worth considering or a complete no no

It's never possible to give a simple yes/no answer to this question. Some aftermarket parts will be at least as good as Jaguar originals. Some are likely to be the same Jaguar parts with different labels. Others will be distinctly dubious and not up to the job. You can only pass proper judgement on a case by case basis. Do you have any particular items in mind that fellow members might have experienced? Mike.

Hi Lee, It helps a lot with support and advice if we know what car you are talking about and where you are located. There is a facility within the system to include this information in your profile.

As Mike has indicated, some aftermarket parts are actually Jaguar parts, just not with the Jaguar label or box, but you need to know what specifically you are interested in.

It's a 2007 jaguar xk 4.2 not xkr based in Northamptonshire

Parts are suspension arms for the vehicle

For items like that good used parts are fine, try autoreserve or eurojag

Bushes for the suspension arms are often difficult for DIY mechanics to fit so it's tempting to buy complete reconditioned units. If you decide to go down that route, make sure the reconditioned units are fitted with the same bushes as Jaguar uses or there may be differences in the way the car feels and the road noise which is transmitted into the car. For example, you may be quite happy with polybushed units but if you want your car to be as Jaguar made it, you may be disappointed with the result. It's not necessarily a matter of being good and bad, merely different. Mike.

Hi Lee, you are asking questions that are too open ended. In the JE magazine, including the back issues that are available online at this website, there are literally dozens of suppliers providing parts to the enthusiasts / members. There is also a comprehensive list of suppliers under Member Benefits section.

Ask specific questions and you are much more likely to receive answers that point you in the appropriate direction. At the present time, you appear as if you are on a fishing expedition.

Hi Lee. The JEC has a excellent relationship with SNG Barratt who are working in partnership with the club to ensure parts remain available for all the models after Jaguar stop the supply. You can download a parts catalogue from SNG (or request a copy) and from the diagrams identify the part and its unique Jaguar part number. This number can then be entered into the SNG website and it will offer you option to buy the part. This can be an OEM part or in many cases an alternative aftermarket sourced part. The prices can be quite different and you have to decide what your wallet can sustain. I consider that if SNG have sourced it then it probably meets an acceptable standard.
Of course having gained the part number from the catalogue you can search for the part elsewhere eg eBay. However, traders know what an item is marketed for elsewhere and in my experience SNG is often competitive or cheaper.
Supporting SNG helps to actively support the remanufacture of parts to keep our cars on the road.
