I've been running XJSs for the best part of 25 years, my current variant being a 1994 (Japanese) import which I took ownership of in 2008. Problem for me is that it is getting a little long in the tooth (just like me) and I'm looking for something a little newer (longer distances etc.). I've been looking at a couple of the newer XK (circa 2008/9) but was trying to decide whether these will be reliable (relatively) and easy to live with? Any experiences warmly received. Also I have no idea running costs insurance etc. Anything you are able to share, really helpful.
Many thanks
Nick

Re: Help and Advice Please
Thus far, the early 4.2 litre XKs of 2007/2008 have proved reliable. On the maintenance front, the 4.2 litre engine is simpler to deal with than the more powerful 5 litre versions with its direct fuel injection. Like all ageing Jaguars, one issue which can emerge is that of spares supplies, even for relatively common items, like headlamps. Jaguar needs to up its game in this area. When buying a car of this age, be prepared to ask about its service history for suspension and running gear items. All Jaguars, even aluminium ones, are heavy cars and any heavy car will routinely require bushes and bearing to be replaced at regular intervals to keep it in first class condition. With decades more development, any XK should feel much more sporting to drive than an XJS, with sharper handling and brisker performance. If it doesn't, walk away from that particular car. There are lots to choose from. Mike.
