Hey everyone- new to the forum and the car. We’ve had her about 2 months and she threw an overheating warning at us. Warning came on after short drive- ac did not work on the drive and warning came on when stopped. Car was shut down immediately- cooled off , got the car home with the heat blasting- no warning until parked in drive with ac turned on- I’m an old car guy not a new car guy so I suspect the usual, fan, pump, thermostat...
No steam, no leaks...any thoughts?

These cars are not known for overheating so if there are no physical signs of water sitting where it shouldn't be, check out the engine temp sensor early in your investigations. Mike.

Presumably the coolant level in header tank is ok? Check it hot and cold. If it is and no leaks then yes temp sensor maybe at fault. Not quite sure how it fits with no a/c though....

I believe the water pumps are a weak spot so I'd be considering that too.

Early 4 litre XK8s had weak plastic impellors prone to breakage but, thus far at least, the water pumps fitted to 5 litre XKs are not showing an abnormal failure pattern. Mike.
