Hi
I have a worn drivers side botton door hinge on a 1996 XK8 coupe and have a new one ordered from Jaguar main dealer. It has arrived today and I paid and brought it home.
After checking, it looks different to the one that is on, more substantial. I rang the dealer and they treble checked the number and it is the correct one.
The Jaguar part number is FJE 3044AA.
Apparently, there is a note on file that states this replaces the original item and is classed as ' a more robust hinge' and was used on facelifted XK''s from 2001.
It's definitely more substantial however it will be thicker than the top hinge and will throw the door out. I told the dealer that as soon as it is painted and the bodyshop go to put it on, if it's wrong I am not paying for the hinge or for the bodyshop costs.
Has anybody used this hinge or have any experience with it?
Regards
Pat

Re: Upgraded Xk8 door hinge
Part numbers for doors changed as well. Consequently, there may be a risk that hinges and doors changed together to allow for thicker hinges. If so, you may be better off sourcing a good second hand item. Perhaps, for everyone's benefit, you could report back after you have solved the issue. Mike.

Re: Upgraded Xk8 door hinge
Hi
Many thanks for your reply. It is much appreciated and I will of course report what the outcome is.
Following a lengthy conversation with my local dealer last Wednesday (03/06/19) I asked them to refer it to Jaguar Technical which normally takes a maximum of 24 hrs for a reply.
I received a call yesterday from the dealer and apparently the email states 'following product improvements the part may have visual differences and numbers, but is the correct hinge for the job'.
As soon as I said the holes may possibly line up, but the hinges itself is much thicker the person I was talking to completed my sentence. It will throw the bottom out. Which it will,by a fair amount. The dealer also didn't recognise any of the numbers stamped on the item.
I know this hinge was brought in 2001on facelift models. The door seals were also changed so original seals may not work with the hinge.
At present it has been referred back to Jaguar Technical and i await their reply. I pointed out as the previous post that if it is fitted and is incorrect I am not paying. Apparently dealers have 2 weeks to return the item to Jaguar , after that its theirs. This may take longer than that to sort out, but at present , unless I hear otherwise I will be returning the serious lump of metal!
I will keep everyone informed
Kind regards
Pat

Re: Upgraded Xk8 door hinge
The door hinge has been returned to Jaguar and I am awaiting the cheque to arrive.
It was noted down as 'unfit for purpose'
I spoke to the person who I have been dealing with in the parts department and once again he finished my sentance with regard to it kicking the door out. The hinge is a serious lump of metal.
I collected my xk8 today and it has been repaired . I dobt know for sure but if anyone needs a bottom or top hinge it may be you will have to change them both to get the door correct.
However it may be worth trying the hinge as mine is a very early xk and has a fair few things that are different to ones produced less than 6 months later
