So.... Firstly Hello All, I bought my first Jaguar a few weeks ago. A 2004 MY XKR400 Convertible

We took it out for a spin last weekend with the roof down and when I tried to raise the roof nothing happened. After getting back home I did some "Googling" and managed to get the roof back up manually, and after further investigation also managed to get the rear quarter lights to close by bypassing the relays.

On further investigation the 40A fuse in the rear fuse box had blown, so I replaced it, but no joy.

I have tried manually raising and closing the roof and disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes to reset everything.

The current situation is as follows;

With the roof up, if I press the roof down button there is a short delay, then a chime, then the front windows and rear quarter lights go down but nothing else. If I check the fuse it is blown.

With the roof down if I press the roof up button there is a short delay, then a chime, then the front windows go down but nothing else.

In either case I cannot hear the pump (although I have the engine running so I'm not sure if you can)

My questions are;

1. Anybody got any ideas as to where the problem lies?

2. Can anyone suggest a specialist (ideally within travelling distance of South Yorkshire) who can diagnose and fix the problem (hopefully cheaply!)

Whilst not totally bulletproof, these roofs are pretty reliable on cars built after the late nineties (when the fluid spec changed). Failure of the heavily rated fuse suggests that the pump motor is drawing a massive current which may be the case if the pump has seized. Mike.
