Pedestrian protection system warning light

The pedestrian protection system warning light is showing on my dash, the car is an xkx150 2011, the problem is the n/s impact sensor, does anyone know if it will fail an mot in this situation Thanks

Paul, I can't say for sure, but I would think the chances of an MoT Pass, with that light on are about zero You could ask your intended MoT garage beforehand how they will judge it.

Your reference to the nearside impact sensor may be misleading as my understanding is that there is only one impact sensor - a strip sensor mounted centrally in the bumper, but there are, also in the bumper, right and left accelerometers and I wonder if that's what you're referring to.

Regardless of that, I would say the right thing to do is to get the system working properly again and a Jaguar enabled scanner will be needed to narrow down the detailed cause. Each accelerometer has eight fault codes associated with it. All begin B1005 followed by two more digits that identify the fault in more detail, such as a short, open circuit, sensor failure and so on.

Like the more common airbag systems, the Ped Prot System, requires careful safety precautions during any work on it. More details available if required.

Before assuming the worst, try opening and closing the bonnet. Sometimes, a poorly latched bonnet can cause spurious pedestrian protection system warnings. Mike.

HI. For no apparent reason I have just got an error message "check pedestrian system" on my 2006 XK series 150.
I have not 'nudged' the front of the car and have carried out a visual inspection of the bonnet air bags and can see nothing untoward.
The message went away for a short while but is back again.
Not wishing to spend a fortune at my local Jaguar dealer, any suggestions ?

Hi Paul,

It looks like you may already have had a diagnosis from what you say. Has someone checked it with a code reader?

According to my Jag specialist when my 2010MY Pedestrian warning popped up last year, in nine cases out of ten it's the accelerometer sensors that have failed.

If the diagnosis is the accelerometer sensor failure I would recommend to replace both sensors - there are two one on left and one on right of the bumper bar. As the procedure involves taking the bumper (cover) off to replace either for the sake of the cost of a part its worth doing both - you should have peace of mind that you won't be expending effort/cost on the other one at some point in the near term.

If you don't have a code reader a Jaguar specialist (ie not a dealer) will typically read a code for £50. Depending on where you live there may also be JEC members who have code readers that they would be willing to help you out.
