Brake lights and workshop manual

Hi everyone,
I have a 2013 XKR convertible on which, I believe, the rear light clusters, inner and outer, are all LEDs,not bulbs. The brake lights are in the outer clusters with two runs of lights in each, upper and lower. The lower run on the driver's side stopped working, although the upper run on that side is still fine.
I removed that cluster to see what was going on and found that it was partly full of water, which is presumably what caused those LEDs to fail.
Two questions:
1) Presumably this is not a serviceable item so I'll have to ring SNG Barrett's or whoever and buy a new cluster?
2) A workshop manual is going to be pretty handy for this and future jobs on the car. Where's the best (and cheapest!) place to get one.

For a manual specific to your Model Year, you need to register with Jaguar's Topix ( Google it for details) and pay for access to Jaguar's online 'library'. However, there are plenty of useful Jaguar technical data sources that are widely available to you online.

The thing is that MY 2012 seems to be a cut off date that marks the end of easily accessible material, but I'm pretty sure that much of the material from MY 2012 will at least be a good guide for you. Others may be able to advise on this.

One point to note is that you need to identify whether 2013 is the Model Year of your XKR or the date it was first registered - you could have a MY 2012 first registered in 2013. The VIN is especially helpful when buying parts.

Thanks very much for your reply. I shall certainly visit Topix and/or follow the link. It does seem that ours is one of the later cars with fewer serviceable parts. It was first registered in June 2013 but curiously the VIN is a later/higher number than the range you quoted for that year.

Your VIN includes the Model Year (As opposed to year of registration)

The seventh character was, for earlier models, a single digit, representing the last digit of the year of build. When 2009 finished off the digits, the numerical identity was replaced by the alphabet, starting with A for 2010 and so on.

It sounds as though you might have a 2014 model?
