Scrapped XK8?

Postby MaxTheDog » Sun Jul 09, 2023 10:07 am

Hi All,
Does anyone have any idea the going rate for scrapping a XK8? Or any place in particular. Mine is up for sale here:

https://www.evoke-classics.com/auction/ ... k8-my2000/

Together with its old registration:

https://www.evoke-classics.com/auction/ ... on-x3-baa/

The pessimist in me suspect this will be its fate as there’s been no interest in either. I did have an advert here briefly but removed it as Evoke require exclusivity while on their site.
Regards,
Michael.

If it's a runner with no major issues, I certainly wouldn't scrap it. I have bought and sold most of mine on eBay. You have a low mileage car that should easily fetch a few thousand.

Thanks Andy,
If nothing happens on this site, I’ll try Car & Classics site by then it’ll probably be up for a MOT. I’ll not take it to my local place like last year, they don’t know Jags and give it an advisory of two rear wheel bearings when (I’m told by my mechanic that it’s the axle float they’ve mistaken it for). Even my local tyre chap said there’s nothing wrong with the wheel bearings. Then it’ll be here, EBay and Autocar.

Michael.

Weird at present, some going for silly money and others absolute bargains, don’t really understand it.

Yes, there doesn’t seem to be any kind of rule of thumb for valuation.
Cheers,
Michael.

Wait until you try trading it in and then see how valuable it is!

What I don't understand about trade ins is how they can give you a value without even seeing the car.
One dealer told me that they just phone around their network and then figure it out from there, he didn't even look at my car even though it was on his forecourt.
One offered me something derisory but then doubled it after a chat and another one said that he would look to sell it on at the price that I had advertised it for.

Was offered £4k from two dealers. As Steve_m said, unseen. All they do is ring round/Google.
I suppose given the current state of finances of quite a lot of people it’s probably not the best time to want to sell a 4 litre engined motor. Coupled with the increasing anti ICE vehicle attitude it’ll be a hard sell.

Not so sure, still a strong demand, like most things in life it’s about finding the right buyer..

For info. Most dealers have access to an APP, which works on a very similar algorithm / database search as "We Buy Any Car", much faster and simpler than their old style "Glass's Guide" and able to be used by even the most junior of sales folks. They simply enter the basic data relating to your vehicle and milliseconds later they have the answer.

You would be amazed at how many trade-ins are simply punted down the chain, especially when trying to use a franchised dealer. The manufacturer tends to rule that the dealership can only place on their forecourt, 1 previous iteration of a current model once the replacement is in the showrooms - even if they are really struggling for stock.

The Independents also tend to work in a sector and if your trade-in falls outside of their parameters, it goes down the chain, or worse to auction.
