Hi all
I have recently acquired an elderly XK8 convertible, and a lockup to keep it in. The garage is unheated, draughty and the roof leaks.
I'm thinking about a Carcoon inside the garage. Does any one have experience of these ? Are they worth the significant expense ?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: Carcoons
Hello Peter
I once stored a E Type in a hired garage/ shed, and to protect it, I covered the car in clean but old blankets, and finally, an lightweight tarpaulin.
About 15 months later I removed the "protection" and was shocked to see that the paintwork, that had been very good, now had the appearance of suppurating orange peel. Have you ever seen a grown man cry?
Since that experience, I have ensured that I have kept my car in a ventilated, and reasonably warm garage with no additional cover.
The solution to your problem may well be a carcoon type tent, and I would suggest that you consider a good used one, that you often see advertised for sale on the internet.
You will not eliminate deterioration / rust but will dramatically minimise it with some T.L.C.
Kind Regards

I have no experience of these covers but would be concerned about it trapping damp, which may occur if the floor of the lock up has not been adequately damp-proofed or if condensation occurs inside the "tent". As suggested by Richard, ventilation may be the better option.

I store my XJS in the outdoor version of the Cartoon. There are 2 fans which circulate air around the Carcoon which inflate it something like a bouncy castle. The car doesn't suffer from any condensation and the level of air circulation can be adjusted. Car should be dry before bagging it up. If damp - just increase the air circulation by adjusting the vent zip and drying takes place quite quickly.
Whilst mine is the outdoor version, I use inside one of the temporary garages - mainly as a windbreak as it leaks like a sieve.
If memory serves me correctly - Peter Simpson did a write-up in the JEC magazine recently and gives a lot more detail than I've included here.
HTH - Carcoon gets my vote.
