Hi, I'm considering a full respray of my 2006 XK. It was built with the hideous extending electric aerial that hasn't worked since purchase.
Does anyone know, have any experience of replacing the aerial with the type supplied integral to the boot spoiler installed in the later models?
If this is as simple replacement and is the largest challenge extending wiring to the existing electric aerial and making off the connection there?
If so, ebay may be the answer and fit with the spoiler pre respray.
Any ideas people?

Re: Replacing Aerial
I agree, although my aerial does work I have never liked the '60's ford capri' look. But now there is only one route for these cars and that is the Classic Car category, and as such the model is already dated, so I think I am going to grease the aerial and just grow to like it. (much cheaper option). I guess if you did change the wiring it is doing the same job wherever it is connected so can't imagine it would not work.
Re: Replacing Aerial
I quite like the extending aerial.
They just need a bit of periodic maintenance.
The tolerances between the sliding sections are quite tight and the usual dust and grime
makes the aerial stick if its not regularly cleaned and lubricated.
..........it only takes a few minutes.
The method I was taught.........
Extend the aerial fully.
Soak a piece of kitchen towel with WD40....NEVER use oil.....its too sticky
Wipe onto the aerial using a full "up and down" wipe paying careful attention to the joins and the base entry into the wing.
The towel will go black with the muck !
Repeat with fresh WD40 untill the kitchen towel no longer discolours.
Run the aerial up and down two or three times....
Then fully extend again........
Wipe carefully with DRY kitchen towel to remove all liquid WD40......before
retracting the aerial until used again......for another couple of months.......
unless you drive in a very dusty area !
