10 year service

My XK8 is 10 years old with 40300 miles on the clock. I understand it is now due for its '10 year service'. Can anyone tell me where I can find out what this entails? Up to now, it's just had annual 'interim services'. I can't find any information on the web, and the local dealer wasn't much help either. Thanks.

That sounds eye wateringly expensive.
I vaguely remember reading that all brake components should be replaced at that point.
I've never known anybody do that but would not decry anyone that did. The point being that without some careful consideration an unacceptable amount could be spent.

you have to ask yourself,

is the rest of the car worth the ten year service, ?

if the answer is yes, and you are happy to pay , then why not ?

if the car is an excellent example of the marque, then a genuine Jaguar service will help it hold its value for longer, but if its missed the last four stamps ( for example ) then don't bother

i'm not saying don't service your car, but you don't have to spend all that money at a main dealer for a stamp in the book the keep the car healthy

This link gives details of basis servicing schedules which run as 10k, 20k and 30k intervals and then start again. Age also figures. I think your car comes under Group 3.

This ten year service matter is I must admit something new to me and I`m not familiar with the regime. Perhaps this is something marketed by Main Dealers.

As an owner of an aging V8 S-type now over twelve years old, I would certainly be having gearbox oil changed and also unless you know it has been done, have the top timing chain tensioners checked to see they are not original plastic items which we know crack from around 40k miles and can ruin your engine if they break.....which they are certain to do given time and mileage. I'm unsure where the '10 year service' designation has come from. As far as I can see, it doesn't get a mention on Topix (Jaguar's current repair operations system). Hence, it looks most likely to be a hangover from the past. Common sense says that critical safety items like brake seals don't last forever so changing them is best done before running out of brakes(!) Nevertheless, I can't spot a service change in Topix. Similarly, I have a recollection that Jaguar only gave early airbags a 10 year service life but today, they don't appear to retain that limitation in the service documentation.
An interim service is little more than an oil change and one or two visual checks. If the car has only ever had the Jaguar recommended basic services, at 10 years of age I would be tempted to take the car to a competent Jaguar specialist and ask for the car to be checked over with a view to it lasting a further 10 years. That way, rarely checked items like sub-frame mounts and prop joints should be included in a thorough inspection. Mike.
