Effective Cleaning Agents

Postby snowey » Sun Oct 05, 2008 11:18 am

Have just acquired (from the US) a 2001 XK8 Convertible. Everything works (touch wood) but on the bonnet & rear (particularly under a certain light) the bodywork (which is navy blue) appears to have what looks like some sort of stain. Its as if it has rained & the rain has left marks. I have used canaubra wax to try & get rid of them but to no avail. Therefore any suggestions would be welcome.

Wax won't get rid of water stains just protect them  You need to clean the paint, something like Meguiars 3 stage system, 1st stage paint cleaner(like mild T-Cut  ) then 2nd stage resin polish then 3rd stage carnuba wax :D

As Bass says the meguires 3 step is a good choice, also consider zymol cleaner wax. Better yet get hold of a clay bar and treat the whole car, the downside of clay-barring properly is that it's best done in warmer weather so the clay stays pliant, once claybarred do the meguires 3 step and then nano protect

If it really is that unbearable take it to a quality body shop and ask them what they recommend short of a respray.

If you do manage to shift or hide the paintwork anomolies then still consider a paintwork nano protectant...it has the added benefit of never having to wax your car for a year.
