XKR/8 Rear Wheel Hubs.

Postby MarkGeorge » Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:28 pm

I have a 2000 MY XKR with the 20" wheels, my off side rear wheel hub is clicking, subsequent inspection has uncovered that the hubs shaft has worn around the mating face with the bearing with consequent movement. I have located a second hand, but perfect, replacement item from a wrecked low mileage 1998 car, simply put is anyone aware of any differences which will prevent me using this part? While on the subject are the XKR and XK8 parts identical?

Are you 100% certain that the hub is the cause of the clicking? The reason I ask, my 20" Detroit alloys are 'clicking' as you describe. I haven't yet confidently located the cause of the sound.. could be hub, could be loose stone or metal inside the alloy, or another suggestion, perhaps the split rim alloys were not properly sealed/bonded when they were refurbished prior to me buying the car. Will ask a friend (ahem!!!! Alwyn!!!!!!!!) about swapping wheels for an hour to see if they are the cause of the noise.

Will update whenever I get round to trying it... let me know if you solve your problem.
