Yipee! Handbrake

Postby RAJ » Fri Feb 22, 2008 1:14 pm

I've got a handbrake on my 02 XK8.

I didn't like not having a lock on handbrake so I had a new one fitted.

I've retained the old one and intend to rebuild the teeth ready for this one wearing out. After all it's hardly six years old.
I've never on any car that I've owned had a handbrake ratchet wear out

On an automatic where drivers often use 'park' rather than the handbrake it's surprising to hear that the teeth have failed. Perhaps a previous owner was one of those drivers who not only used it a lot but also allowed the ratchet to click past every tooth (a pet hated noise!). Mike.

I must agree. I was suprised at the ratchet wearing allready.

In my huble opinion the teeth are much to fine.
