New Front Grille

Postby glenngyi » Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:53 am

I have at last fitted a new mesh grille to the front of my car. I have been wanting to do this for quite some time and have always looked at other 'nose jobs' at all the JEC shows I have attended in an effort to see which one looks the best. Well I have finally bit the bullit and bought one, it cost me £279 plus £8.50 p&p (the badge and the chrome effect plastic strake seem to be Jaguar parts as they are identical to the ones on the new XK). It came complete with fitting instructions and fixings. I had it in mind to let my local independant Jaguar dealer fit it but then I thought 'what the hell', i'll fit it myself. It took me about 6 hours but I kept getting distracted and being side tracked and messing about with other things, as you do when you're having fun. I took some pictures as I was progressing (below) and I think I have done a good job and it looks great (any comments appreciated, positive or negative) If anyone wants more info or advice, please feel free to mail me. Where is the numer plate I hear you ask! Well I was waiting for a plinth which has now arrived and been fitted, not taken pictures yet but watch this space!!!!

......and here they are, as true as my word, pictures taken today (12th August) ;

The plinth cost £56 inc P&P similar thing costs a small fortune from Paramount, it is plastic and can be painted to suit car colour, it looked ok in black but will touch out the screw heads to make perfect. Once again I fitted it myself, was a doddle to do in about half an hour when you are a perfectionist like me, basically 8 x self tapping screws. I put self tapping retaining plates at the back ot the screws to be on safe side. Once again for further advice feel free to mail me :lol:

Oh! The plates on the car are 'Show Plates' and are not road legal :roll:

If you click on one of the images, I think it will take you to my 'Webshots' folder where there are more Jaguar Pictures for Public consumption!

Looks good and great that you had the front badge removed...V professional job.

I paid Jag main dealer £50+VAt and they did mine for me (independants were quoting 2-3 hours and main dealer did it in 30 mins

I go mine from Adamesh (*although mine doesn't have the latest XK striker and growler) and he uses my car in his adverts.

The car looks great but looking at those axle stands I hope you followed Jaguar's advice about not jacking under the aluminium cross beam. For service operations at the front the car should only be jacked using the front body cross member and then lowered onto axle stands placed under the front jacking points. The aluminium beam has 'bushes' in it which are very vulnerable to damage. Mike.

Great looking grill, but who makes it, and do you have their address?

Hi,

thanks for looking at my posting and for your kind comments. I bought the grille from a company called Adamesh, I have put a link that you can hopefully click on and it will go directly to their website, failing that just google Adamesh and you should find it that way.
I have always wanted to change the original grille as I thought the number plate position obscured the look of the'E-Type' oval, imagine my disappointment when the new XK had done exactly what I had done! I think they copied off me!!! :lol:

Send me some pictures if you have it done, enjoy,

Glenn
