XK8/R Owners in Inverness area.

Postby MyQuest » Sun Sep 02, 2007 2:01 pm

This coming week I’m making a sentimental journey back to Scotland, from the wilds of woolly Wiltshire.

If any XK8/R owners in the Inverness area fancy a beer and a natter on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings (4/5th Sept), I’d be delighted to make their acquaintance.

I'll be staying at the Royal Highland Hotel, Station Square, Academy St. and will be pleased to buy a drink or two in the evening. (Females - three or four..!). If more than 5 show up –I might just regret this….

Hotel No. is 01569 762672 and my mobile: 0776 549 0205.

As an ex resident of the Inverness area I can recommend the hospitality. If no XK8 owners respond, try contacting Campbell Downie who I believe is still the regional organiser (and blame me). Enjoy your visit! Mike. :D

Thanks Mike - but only just read your message on return, so did not do as suggested.

However, I know all our readers are gagging to know how the free beer night went.... Well, let me say it was not costly, as no-one showed up - 'result!' said my credit card!

I had a great time and did nearly 1400 miles. The XK8 was faultless and returned over 30mpg for the first time.

Furthermore, I accomplished the main reason for the trip, plus figured out that at 70 the speedo is 6 mph optimistic when the tyres are cold and 4 mph when hot - according to my TomTom satnav.

Which means that the odometer is probably showing more miles than actual and mpg figures are a tad rosy as well. I'm running Pirellis on 18* flute wheels.

My little Ford Ka appears even worse than the XK8 in that respect!

My XKR / NavMan reads the same as your XK8 / TomTom

By the way when I was timed at 162.4 MPH my speedo was reading 170 MPH
(It's OK it wasn't a points / fine / licence situation )

But of course not a good idea to test the reported discrepency through speed cameras!! :P

I just did 370 miles over yesterday and today and my 96 P plate averaged 32MPG according to my trip (34.8 there, 29.2 back).

Great thing it cost me less than £32 in LPG
