Hia all,

All being well will collect a 2000 year XKR next weekend. More details when I get my hands on this beauty. It will be used, but over the winter may be looking for secure safe storage around Sheffield if anyone knows anyone or has suggestions that would be appreciated.

Also recommendations re breathable car covers as want to avoid the local feline population sitting on the bonnet of this big cat, as they do my XF and neighbours cars....short of doing what was suggested ( tongue in cheek I hasten to add !) shooting the 4 legged feline !

Good to get to know fellow members

David

Welcome to the Forum daveji.
Enjoy your new toy as we all do and remember, they are best used frequently, I know its a hardship, but    :D

Hi David,

Happy motoring in your new toy! Using it will definitely keep you smiling broadly. XK8/Rs are fabulous value for money and are just that bit special to drive. Welcome to our happy band of drivers. Mike. :D

Picked the xkr up, last owner had her for 12 years, and seemingly it wanted for nothing. Bought a decent cover online which at least will keep the local felines population off it.

Couple of trips out in it, one over to Castleton and pub on way home ( j20 before you ask for me!) and I just love the v8 sound. Previous owner has put a sports exhaust on, which does not sound too loud but gives that v8 burble.

Only issues are a slight bit of surface rust on end of the lower sills near the rear wheels which I will treat and watch for now.

Happy new purchase!

Just to be on the safe side, whilst you are treating the surface rust, check the front floorpans where there is a double skinned section which can rot. If all is good, fill any gaps between the panels with waxoyl or similar while you are there. If rust has taken hold, don't despair. A good body shop can usually cut out and repair the damage for £250/£300 per side. Otherwise, as long as you check the car as you would any vehicle, XK8s aren't bad for hidden rust. Mike.

Thanks Mike. Having had a look can see some rot on drivers side outer skin. Small hole but will get fixed and waxoyled. Was always going to be a project. Gather they are prone at rear above the axles too. Cheers. David
