Just Joined - Hello

Hi

Just joined the JEC... been a fan of the XK8 for as long as I can remember. Have recently been fortunate enough to have enough spare cash to get my first one (oh yes there will be more!) - that's the beauty in my avatar outside Reading FC stadium.

The one I have just bought is in good physical condition all round, very clean and tidy, full service history and has a good engine blow test result. There are some problems evident that I will need to sort, minor driver seat wear and minor paint chips and more puzzling (and probably more expensive) an intermittent engine performance warning light which didn't show itself before purchase. The amber light comes on but there's no noticeable change in performance. And then it goes out again for no apparent reason. I guess it'll take a specialist to work it out but I'll be searching the forum BB's for advice for sure.

The car is completely standard except for a recently installed Prins LPG kit which is still under warranty that provides me with an "economical" option should I choose to use it. Views welcome from any other LPG converted XK8 owners out there.

Looking forward to my membership and XK8 ownership experience! (oh - I've got an X-Type Estate for work too but that's just not in the same league as the XK)

Hi Steve, Welcome to the Forum! I hope you'll get lots of enjoyment from your great looking car. XKs have very sensitive electrics so don't rule out the possibility that fitting the gas kit may be provoking the engine warning lamp into action, either because the kit has been tapped badly into the car's systems or that on changeover between fuels, the oxygen sensors are picking up strange readings. Mike.

Cheers for that Mike. First port of call is the company who fitted the LPG kit - still under warranty so I'm hoping they've got some diagnostic kit!

Welcome to the forum! I had a similar issue but with an intermittent misfire (not an lpg car though) and took the car into my local Main Dealer who had agreed to hook the car up to their diagnostics FOC in the hope I would then give them the work. Turned out to be a coil fault so repaired it myself but I do buy most of my parts from them (with a negotiated discount!). Hope you sort it out okay.

Fault seems to have gone on latest trip out? Weird. Must get it checked out tho' so thanks for the tip - that's the second reference to a coil problem that's been suggested.
