XK8 wind deflectors

Postby johno8122 » Thu Nov 02, 2006 8:45 pm

Having just changed my XK8 coupe for a convertible am interested in any views about wind deflectors.
Do they work? How easy are they to fit? Does any one do one that does not need holes drilled? (if that is how they are fitted).
Have seen a number on the internet and am now confused.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I take it you have seen this post elsewhere on the forum :

Wind Deflectors

I have one from Classic Additions, it works to a fashion, but isn't brilliant. I think they all involve drilling holes.

:) Hi! Having had a whole summer to assess the Jaguar version, I can say that it does work reasonably well. One criticism is that when passing heavy lorries at speed, it has a tendency for the wind pressure to force it to flop back to the half height folded position. The deflector is only held upright on a sprung ball arrangement. The basic idea is a good one because it improves rearward visibility without the need to remove and stow the deflector. However, reaching back to restore draughtfree motoring can become irritating on brisk continental motorways. Mike.

Hi. I think you have to be careful what you buy. Most don't go for the 'original' jag accessory as it is in the upper £400 mark. I've heard that other makes are not so well made and can be difficult to fit. I waited until one came up on e-bay - but it did not happen. I then went on the American e-bay site and found several going for very good prices. E-mailed a seller in Pittsburg and got one for £216.00. It cost me £18.00 to get it here. Was as new and the original German made model. Was not happy about fitting it myself (instructions looked difficult)so got the local Jag dealer (Webbers of Basingstoke) to do it. Great job. Looks good and works well in that it stops the buffeting around the back of the neck. Very easty to remove and comes with a storage bag to go in the boot. Can also be folded almost flat. Also you can have the roof up withot removing it. I think it's worth this kind of money. Alan
