How do you remove the plastic over sill outer cover trims without damaging any paint etc as fitted to the xk8 4.2S 2005 model, its part of the body kit fitted to this late model X100, as I want to check for any corrosion to the metal sills below.

Re: over-sill removal
There should be something like eight clips along the lower edge of the moulding which hold it in position. Release them and the moulding should come free. However, age and general cussedness may make it a little more difficult to do without risking scuffing some paintwork. Mike.

Re: over-sill removal
Remove the plastic rivets on the underside of the sill - they're the centre pull type ( get the tool to pull the centre or make one - a set of wire strippers can be adapted to make a pincer) - and lever out the body of the rivet (again either get the tool or improvise). The sill is held along it's top edge by 12 hidden plastic rivets. My technique was to pull outwards starting at the front wheel arch and bang the underside of the sill with the heel of my hand. This popped out the first rivet. Then continue to the back wheel arch. Useful if someone holds the loose end of the sill. An occasional rivet may be damaged. These can be got from the well known suppliers.

If you undertake it, it would be good to video it and upload it to “You Tube” as no one has uploaded this procedure before.
