Hello All

Postby Eeyore42 » Thu Jun 05, 2014 1:52 pm

Hello all fellow XK owners. This is my first post. Not sure if i have put it in the right place.

My story is i unfortunately lost my dad back in Febuary and have inherirted his very nice Black XKR. Bit of a difference to the Renault Clio i had before. So far we have found many things wrong with her and as my dad bought me up to respect the Jaguar i am now continuing the healing process of her. I'm only 28 and this is probably the only time i'm going to be able to afford one so i'm taking full advantage of it. It does however drive my husband crazy that i am Captin Slow in her :-)

I do have one question that i have not been able to figure out yet. The automatic areal is making a horrible noise when it retracts. I presume it is too much friction. We have tried using Silicone spray (covering the paint work so not to get any on it) but it does not seem to work. I rembmer when i was a little girl my dad rubbing something on previouse Jags we have had but i cant remember what it was. Any suggestions as to what any of you put on them?

I could talk for hours about the car and my child hood with Jags but i wont.

Thank you in advance for any ideas. I am Dyslexic so please forgive any spelling mistakes.
I look forward to going to all the events i can afford to go to.

Jenny

welcome Jenny

sorry to hear about your dad , lets hope you can make some more happy memories in the Jag you inherited from him

as you are becoming aware, they need regular use and TLC to keep in fine fettle

if its only the aerial thats giving you worry at the moment then your off to a good start

dont use WD40 , and silicone spray os ok , but not the best

Jaguar actually sell an ' aerial wipe ' to clean the mast , then once clean use some very light oil to lubricate the running joints, like ' 3 in 1 oil '

send it up and down a few times, and see if that helps, wipe off any excess oil when in the up position

other than that it could be the plastic gear strip has been damaged , and needs replacing, a new mast ( which has the gear strip attached ) is available from Jag for around £20 , and is a doddle to fit

instructions can be found on here , or post again and we will explain how

there is one rule to using this site......and that is to post pics of the beastie , if you can ,

keep looking around the site, and keep posting , , as i am also dyslexic ( sp ) ?
