Just bought an XK8 convertible. 1998 in Sherwood Green metallic with Ivory leather. Nice car just requires a little fettling. Wheels could do with a minor refurb. Everything works as it should even the Cassette player so I can relive the eighties and nineties cassettes I kept.
The car is sound even the rear arches and sills are solid (unusual at that age so I found out after looking at a great many poor examples). The car has a decent history although it has done very few miles in last couple of years. I did more last weekend driving from Surrey to Tyneside than it has done in the last couple of years. Did not miss a beat and returned 27mpg.
The car had fitted a new water pump and housing last year so that issue is taken care of. There is however a slight bearing/ pulley noise from the front top of the engine which I am unsure of. It does not appear to be major but being a Jag I will get an expert to look at. Any recommendations in Tyneside area? I do not know if timing chain and tensioners done so may get them done sooner rather than later, any idea what cost I would be looking at?
I previously was a member of the JEC in the early / mid nineties when I owned a XJC 4.2 in Squadron Blue NJR775R and have often wondered what happened to it.
I have tried to upload an image hope it has worked
Thought I would say hello

Welcome Lone ranger,
Looks a nicely turned out example - check out other threads in the X308 forum and others regarding the tensioners, you should get them checked by an independent specialist asap, don't forget to check out your local regional activities as well as the XK forum events and all the stuff we have going on to celebrate the club's 30th Birthday..
Enjoy your Jaguar motoring and being a member of the best Jaguar club.....In the Worrrrrld!!!

Re: Thought I would say hello
thanks for info guys.
Found out the other day that the first owner of my XK8 was Chris Evans. Suppose he needed a reliable car in his fleet as those Ferrari's are not very reliable LOL
