I have just become a new member, after purchasing a 2001 XKR, very pleased with the cat, the first week end I got her took her to Snowdon (told the better half, it was a romantic week end away, but we all know the real reason), any way on the way up the M1 my raoring Lion became a pussy cat, lost that edge on the power front, long story but took it to a really helpful Jaguar specialist "NorthWales Jags" (can not praise the helpfulness of this garage enough) he suggested it was the "air flow monitor" , changed it and now roaring again.
I now have another 2 problems
1. The in-car phone does not work, I have put an O2 sim card in and I get all the bleeps of dialling out but it just comes back with a message saying "callEnded".
2. The built in SAt Nav is so out of date, and I can not find where to get an upto date version.
If any one can help!
HI NEW MEMBER 2 probs Sat Nav and in-car phone

Welcome to the Club and Forum, Robin45
I can't help you with the phone problem as I don't have one in mine, but I am sure someone will be along to advise ( I know Nik has a phone fitted, although the earlier version, but he is very savvy in these matters.
Re you SatNav, again I don't have it in my car - I prefer the 3 dials . . . just for nostalgia as this is all they are any good for.
To my knowledge Jaguar released the last of the SatNav updates in 2003 and nothing since. This is pretty shameful, particularly for the people who bought cars with the SatNav at extra cost right up to the end of the production run. Also, I believe the updates came at a cost of a few hundred pounds each
.
Compared with the modern SatNav systems available for little money, the Jaguar system was never very useful, ie no searching by post code, etc.
But hey, don't we still love our cars

Hi Robin ,
I presume the phone is a motorola Startac 130 with the Jaguar logo on startup ,
that confirms it is the Jaguar Startac with the correct firmware installed and not an ordinary Startac that won't work in your car
Have you tried getting someone to phone your number ?
Secondly does the phone work when it's not plugged into the loom cable?
If the phone works out of the car but not plugged in I'd check the lefthand steering wheel switch pack or the phone control module , it's fitted under the cubby box lining
,
as for the Jaguar SatNav , I'd buy a tomtom
much better,cheaper
Hope this helps ,
Nik

Hi Nik
Thanks for the advice.
The phone is a Motarola with a jaguar logo on start up.
If some one calls the mobile number you get number unobtainable.
when you say does the phone work when its not plugged in to the loom, it is wired in and when the lead is disconnected it is dead.
The controls on the left hand side of the steering wheel seem to function OK in the fact that I can select phone mode from the controls.
The display on the centre console shows that I have service (depending on the SIM card I use) and shows the number I am dialling, it then displays dialling, but then always comes back with the message "Call Ended". this is the same response when using three different Sim cards. or using it as a handset.
Would it be advisable to take it to a Jaguar Garage
Its a shame about the SatNav
Thanks

Hi,
I have what sounds like the same phone and it works well with a Virgin simcard despite the warnings about only using an O2 card. You could take the car to a Jaguar dealer for diagnosis but a better bet would be to use a Jaguar specialist with the Jaguar diagnostics system. It would be cheaper and dare I say it, in many cases the service will be better. David Marks at Nottingham has the full Jaguar diagnostics system so it's likely he could sort out the phone. As for the sat nav, be positive. I find the larger screen easier to see than a Tomtom so used in conjunction with a Tomtom's voice commands, you get the best of both worlds! Mike.
