Hi, new memeber to the club, just taken on a 1999 xkr convertible-what a car ! have a couple of questions that you people may be able to help with;
1, can anybody recommend a spray/sealer for the "mohair" roof. Its a lovely shade of BRG, but i'm worried about birds mess staining it ! The jag dealer informed me that there may be a protective spray available, making it possible to stop the bird crap from sticking !
2, LPG conversion - has anyone had it done, does it affect performance, any problems/maintenance worries, any company recommended ? Ive seen reports that the pre 2000 V8's had a nicksil? engine lining, which was prone to damage by high sulphur content petrol. This can cause problems with LPG conversions. My car is 1999, but really low mileage, so i'm certain this is not a worry. Any advice much appreciated.
Hope to meet up with some of you during a local meet-kent/sussex/surrey.
new member, 1999 xkr, needing advice !

Welcome to the Forum! Jaguar used to market a soft top kit to treat hoods. Examples still crop up at Stoneleigh, other autojumbles and on eBay. Failing that Autoglym and other companies produce similar products. The nikasil issue is largely a thing of the past since, as you say, high sulphur fuel is not available now in the UK. If you are concerned, the way to tell if your engine has suffered is to have a simple blow-by test carried out either by your main agent or at a Jaguar specialist garage. A reading of 10 to 20 litres per minute is typical of a good engine. Jaguar's limit before accepting that warranty work was necessary used to be nearly 40 litres per minute. However, if the car starts well from cold and has no other adverse symptoms it is unlikely that it suffers from this earlier problem. A bigger issue is that of timing chain tensioners. At least the top tensioners should be changed for the latest pattern items to enable you to sleep soundly at night. Mike.

Hi Chris and welcome
I own a XK8 convertible and have used the Jaguar soft top kit ,it was pretty straight forward bought it off Ebay for about £15
All you need to do is follow the instructions,you do need to leave it to dry over night under cover to dry,I did mine just before Christmas and as you are aware its been petty wet this year and so far no problems,as I speak its pouring down. Hope this helps
