Thanks for creating this topic Webman, very quick response!!
I have re posted as requested and look forward to hearing from anyone out there.

My real name is Paul and I have a very early XK8 1996 in Ice Blue fitted with factory 18 " wheels, I have owned her now for 5 years and have enjoyed every minute of having her.

Hi Paul,
Glad to hear that you're enjoying your car. I've just sold my 1997 XK8 after nearly 4 years enjoyment. You may have seen it featured in a DB7 vs XK8 shoot out in a recent edition of Classic & Sports Car. Needless to say, the XK was judged the better car! Having spent a day with both cars, I have to say that many of my previous (envious) views of the DB7 were shattered. Now I have a 4.2 XK8 convertible. What's the biggest difference (apart from the roof)? Having a car with Brembo brakes, the brake pedal feel is so much better. I say feel because I hope I never have to use them in anger. But if I do, I have so much more confidence, they will do a much better job than the standard brakes with their uninspiring pedal feel. Mike.

Hello Mike

I understand that the 4.2 is a big improvement too. My neighbour has an XKR Silverstone lookalike with Paramount bits and peices, he has the Brembo brakes and although the 8's are good I can see the improvement. New pads are a horendus price though I hear!

I'm not surprised that the pads are expensive. I'll put it down as a fair swap for having decent brakes! Mike.

Hi all.
My name is Dave and a bit of a newbie to all this. I have had my XK8 since June. She's a late 1997 model in Sherwood Green and Oatmeal leather. For me she is a dream come true as I've always loved the XK8/R's, (although I had to get divorced first to get her). She has taken a bit of getting used to as I hadn't driven a rear wheel drive car before. She has factory fitted 18" wheels which need a bit of tidying up as the previous owner managed to curb them a bit. I'm currently saving up to have her interior sorted as the seats are a bit scuffed and there is a cigarette burn on the drivers A post covering, (these hopefully being covered elswhere in the forum). I'm also looking at fitting a Paramount Exhaust system later in the year as i think a V8 should have more of a roar, especially from a Big Cat. I look forward to many posts on this forum as the mag was my only contact with the Jag world apart from Brands Hatch last year. I'm certainly intending to attend my local branch meets and would love to go on the Entente Cordial this year, we shall see.

Hello to everyone.

After the excellent XK8 Seminar, I've now splashed out on a 98 XK8 in Carnival Red. It had an engine replacement 3000m ago and has 89000 on the clock. Knowing my luck the gearbox will pack up on me but I took Dave's advice and had the independent who sold it to me, change the transmission oil and filter. So far I just love driving this car.

It's sharing tarmac with:
XJ12 Series 3 1984 on axle stands until I get around to finding a retirement home for it.
Daimler V8 250 1969
X300 4.0 Sport 1995

I've always done my own maintainence. Taking the engine out of the v12 and changing the tensioners was fun. Taking the V8 engine out on the 250 was much easier. It looks as though I'll need to seek help for some of the jobs that arise over time on the XK8 though. As you can see I'm a hoarder and keep cars until there's no alternative to defeat. I hope to keep the XK8 too!

Regards to all
John

Hello all,

Thought I'd join the forum to share my experiences of my 98 XK8 convertible and hear about yours. I've had the car 4 years and is still a pleasure to drive.

I was lucky to get early retirement from my job and bought then. Totally opposite to the V12 E-type 2+2 I already had. I moved to the far north of Scotland 12 months ago were the traffic and roads are ideal (Only problem are the sheep and Deer). Still have plenty of single track roads with passing points, to enjoy the car.

Will post on the other boards the minor electrical problems I've encountered.

Best wishes to all

Mick

Welcome to the forum Mick. Look forward to hearing your news and views on the XK.

May I also recommend the social topic on the JEC Members forum for some light relief and chat.

Cheers

Dave
