I thought I would share with you a new project which I found just before Christmas. I have always loved vintage Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars and I was lucky enough to have various rides in a 1932 Rolls-Royce 20/25 as a child, courtesy of a family friend - see the image below, of me, aged 7 sitting on the bumper, my mother leaning on the wing.
These experiences have lived long in the memory, so during lockdown I started doing some research to see if that car still existed. After much searching, and some great help from the RREC, I was able to track it and its current owner down. Late last year I was able to go and see the car again, for the first time in about 30 years - see image below - the car as it is today.
This set me off considering a vintage (or at least pre-war) car as an option to go with the XJS. I was lucky enough to visit some great dealers who had a very interesting range of cars, but finally I came across this "barn find" at auction in Buxton. I told myself that I would "just go and see", but, as ever, one thing led to another and I bought the damn thing. Since then I have been slowly working my way through it to work out exactly what is missing and what has been changed since it left the factory in 1932 - it has been almost like an archaeology project!
I have joined the RREC, who have been very helpful, and plan to put together a blog, probably on Pistonheads, to share the story with as wide an audience as possible.
