Dash Cam Road Rage

Against my better judgement I was persuaded to take a look at some of the "Road Rage" UK type dash cam footage out there on the internet. I couldn't help thinking that in many of the clips, the "dash-cam" vehicle driver either ramped - up a situation, or continued to abuse the other driver to the maximise the value or effect. Just totally unnecessary, and really not much more than a poor reflection on the person submitting the clip. I'm not talking about genuine incidents but the ones manufactured, punctuated by appalling language,

I've also come across clips where drivers of cars have clearly failed to notice bikers, whereupon the biker has then given chase and proceeded to kick off the drivers door mirror, really. Pathetic, I wouldn't mind guessing that some of these people go out with the intent of securing footage at any cost.

Maybe others have a view?

I too have seen some of these clips. Most are rather pathetic often with both parties being pathetic and rather arrogant. All very un-necessary and showing peoples innate lack of intelligence and respect for each others place on the road.

We can all do without that sort of attitude. What a shame people are not more tolerant.

I agree - its one of the unpleasant side effects of our modern way of communication. Without social media the fire would be starved of oxygen.

I make mistakes, you make mistakes, everyone makes mistakes.

Defensive driving and forgiveness is paramount, expect that car to come out of that turning, expect that car to change lanes without looking or indication, expect the unexpected.

If someone is tailgating you then let them pass, if someone pulls out in front of you don't react. Stuck behing a lorry with a queue of cars in the outside lane, indicate and be patient, someone will eventually let you out and remember to thank them.

Driving is stressfull enough without becoming involved in someone elses accident. Years of motorcycling have proved this to be valuable advice.

With respect to dashcams, my daily driver has one in the rear window facing backwards and is very visible. It is amazing how many fall back to a safer dispance once they realise their ugly mug is being recorded. I've never felt the need to publish any footage on Utube though.

I never thought about the dissuasive effect of a visible rear facing dashcam, I hid mine as well as I could so that people wouldn't notice it, but hey, if it can keep the most unpleasant drivers further from the rear end of my car, why not? Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try!
