"Many people are surprised to hear that custom paintjobs, decals and stickers are also classed as a modification by insurance companies. As such, some people get caught out when they try to make a claim and discover their insurance isn’t valid because they haven’t declared their bumper sticker collection or racing stripes.
"Not all insurance companies cover stickers and custom paintjobs – it depends on claims they have had in the past. If the company has had to make large pay-outs for cars with these kinds of modifications, they may not be keen to cover them for other drivers. For insurers that do offer cover, they’re only likely to increase your premium by 5% at most."

Bwa - ha ha ha ha ha

It's not so long ago that, following complaints, the Insurance Ombudsman slapped down underwriters for refusing claims simply because the radio had been changed but not declared as a "modification". At least the writer had the sense not to include that.
But she could've mentioned the still far too common High Intensity Discharge lamps' (HID) conversions that correctly are outlawed.
5/10 see me

I don't know why the club's still bothering to endorse this outfit...

I had a dead sparrow stuck in the grill of my XJR6 once; should I have informed the insurance company because it would have modified the aerodynamics and cooling efficiency of the car.
Why on earth would improving your fuel consumption decrease your premium?

I have totted up 17 "modifications" to my 1971 series 1 so far, from the gearbox sump drain plug and the spin - on oil filter head to the non standard colour of the road wheels. I can't imagine my insurer (not Flux) will be thrilled at the prospect of going through the list - we shall see...…….
