One less Metro

While I was cruising the M27 yesterday, I found myself gaining on an old Austin Metro in front. It was trailing a light but steady stream of hazy blue smoke behind it, which soon entered my air conditioned gentleman's carriage, the aroma instantly reminding me of a Vauxhall Viva that I was once unfortunate enough to own in the '70's.
It decided to overtake a vehicle in front and after 'mirror, signal, maneuver', just at the point when he must have floored the accelerator, there was an almighty bang, blue smoke and flying bits of crankcase, piston, gears and lord-only knows what else metallic came flying out from underneath the unfortunate British-Leyland vehicle!
Luckily at this point I was in the right hand lane out of the path of the Woolworth mineral-oil-covered debris being strewn across two lanes of Her Majesty's highway.
Shame I didn't have a camera mounted on the dashboard
