I am in two minds about the suggestion of loyalty benefits. I am no exception in thinking that recognising long term membership in some way would be nice. On the other hand if I was a new member I’d like to see a club that treated all its members the same. We need to be mindful that creating sub groups within the membership could be viewed as devisive.
The subject of ‘what do I get from my membership’ comes up time and time again on this forum. Defending any form of tiering of discounts would be difficult when everyone pays the same subscription.

Hi Rod,
Yes it is a minefield, and like you I am not really in the mind of creating sub groups/division, it was just a thinking process. that said, it is why it is good to discuss these things, you get all the view points and can as a result make a better decision.

In the end, yes the card/no card is a different animal to benefits and promotions.

Hunh? In what way "devisive"? If someone's got 20-odd years JEC membership I think that's something to be proud of: 20 years' exposure to others' thinking and tech experience. Apart from showing long term support for surely one of the top manufacturer's supporters' clubs in europe. All my Jags (that are on the road) show with pride the JEC members' logo. Is that devisive? Mind you, there are some here that view pride as devisive

As far as loyality benefits are concerned, they're for the manufacturers and suppliers of goods the JEC choose to support as a revenue generator -- members get a loyality discount for purchasing a supported brand against others not. Common commercial practice -- lets have more of them!

Just to stick my oar in!

After (probably) 30 odd phone calls to my local council (Peterborough City Council) No one could supply me with a definitive list of what, or is not recyclable. So I place everything that is plastic, polythene, rubber etc etc into our green bin, the good peeps at the collection depot can then decide what they do & don't want.

It also seems to me that the vast majority of classic cars are well maintained and looked after by their owners, many have been restored using second user, or NOS items, and are still on the road after 40+ years - thats great use of an item in my opinion.

The classic car industry also employs 1000's of people in supply, repair & restoration, many working from old dusty workshops that have been around for decades - this also is a sustainable product.

I recently watch one of those new Top Gear programmes, they had to buy an electric car, or some such. One of those was a 2011 Nissan Whatever. which after 8 years had a maximum range of 35 miles.

35 miles is not really a responsible attitude to a clean environment. Lets say that car will be (and I use this term loosely) good for another 5 years. After 13-14 years that car goes for scrap/recycling. I would really love to know how much money it would cost for that process to be carried out and how many parts will sill be in use after 40+ years.

Despite opposition (surprisingly from inside the JEC!) I've been lobbying for proper recognition of lower polluting fuels over the past year. All to deaf ears as far as LPG and Hydrogen fuel cell is concerned. And for noting that latest research shows diesel particulates are top of the carcnogenic producing emissions -- in contradiction to regulations that we as an independent sovereign nation state will soon be free to either ignore or replace with our own. My own local council (yes, really!) is promoting lower resident's parking permit charges (currently £120 pa for all cars) for lower polluting vehicles. And not offering those lower charges for diesel cars. My neighbouring borough has embarked on a programme of installing roadside electric parking points.

As we're rush headlong into "banning cars" (Birmingham city centre) or only allowing the better off to drive in inner London, discontent shown toward classic car owners is being whipped up by the green lobby. Suddenly we're anti-social for not increasing the carbon footprint by scrapping our delightful cars of yesteryear and replacing them with a souless electric range-restricted lozenge.

I thought that the average speed in London was 8mph so they are actually increasing it to 20mph? Noice.
I wonder how many people are killed on the roads compared to how many are stabbed to death.
City folk, bless 'em.

It sometimes bewilders me as to the use of "the roads"

Roads are for motor vehicles, pavements are for pedestrians.

If you don't like the idea of getting run over, use a prescribed crossing facility, or as I was advised during my childhood, use the Green Cross Code.

Stop making the motor vehicle the scape goat of peoples stupidity!
