Bloodhound SSC

For those not yet following this 1000mph project, you might be interested to know it will have a 800bhp V12 engine (not Jaguar).

This engine doesn't propel the car of course, that is done with a Eurofighter Typhoon jet engine and a rocket. The V12 is needed to power the fuel pump!

Lincs North region is organizing another meeting with Richard Noble next June when he will bring us up to date with progress on the car's construction etc. It will be at the same venue as the 2009 one - Hill House School, Finningley, Doncaster (which is on the old RAF Finningley - now Robin Hood Airport). We had a superb 'do' this year with an impromptu car show for two hours before. There is even talk of the car itself coming. Will put the actual date on the site when known. Would be good to see as many members as possible. Paul.

Have now found out the date for the BloodhoundSSC meet and it is 26th June 2010 which is a Saturday. The idea is to meet in the early afternoon for another car show followed by the Richard Noble talk later. If funding can be arranged a mock - up of the Bloodhound car may be there. Put the word about - all welcome. Paul.

A lot has moved on in the eight years since I started this thread, the V12 evolved into a Jaguar supercharged V8 and now looks to be replaced by an electric motor.

Having followed the project from the outset and been at the London launch of the car, it was great to watch the footage of its first 200 mph runs at Newquay this week. Is there anyone who doesn't get goosebumps when the afterburners start up on a jet engine?!

£25 million is a heck of a lot of money to find to keep it going, I hope something turns up but I have my doubts. Such a shame for all the work done by the dedicated team.

The world has changed since the idea was started, electric vehicles, clean energy and saving the planet would seem to be more important now.
There was also a high chance of massive failure due to the unknown dynamics of a near supersonic run at ground level. Smearing the car and pilot in a fireball along the desert wouldn't have been good for sponsors.
There were also many other technical and financial problems affecting the whole team.
