And I thought I was bad as a youngster!

The worst me and my pals got up to was using a Ford Anglia roof as a toboggan in the snow. We could get nine of us on it clutching cut off A,B and C posts. The thing was lethal. So off we went from the end of the runway at Kenley Airfield, down a steep meadow slope, though a hole in the hedge, down an even steeper meadow before piling through a fence, across a flower bed, over the lawn, over the edge of the rockery before crashing through french windows and ending up in someones living room. This spoilt our day.

The Police arrived, so did three ambulances and for some obscure reason, a fire engine. We were all taken to Caterham Hospital. One punctured lung, an ear torn off, six broken arms, four broken ribs, one broken ankle, two broken legs a damaged kidney and a written off Anglia toboggan.

It made the press as a great story and we were all very proud and pleased with our achievements. All of us were off school for at least two weeks and one guy for three months. Wizard prang or what?! We achieved near celebrity status upon returning to school. Super heroes was what we became. Nine smashed up school boys with arms in slings or walking on crutches or sticks. Only wish I had a photograph.

I can`t recall what happened as regards insurance settlement for the home owner who received our unwanted visit. My Father said he never got sent a bill for my part in the incident. we made a hell of a mess, broken glass and splintered timber everywhere. Never heard any more about it.

We never needed exploding toys. We made our own. Anything that could be mixed together and heated over a bunsen burner......

Nice video, Rich.
