bloody motorbikes

Postby Brakebuster » Sat Feb 01, 2014 1:52 pm

my son has an aprilia rs125 full power race replica ( Max Biaggi )

well , being a 2 stroke, its nothing but trouble , so last weekend we stripped it down , and a compression test of only 60psi was taken , so , new piston and rings etc,

the parts turned up nice and early , so today we spent several hours taking of the cylinder head , only to discover catastrophic cylinder damage

so , we have now bought a replacement cylinder head, and gasket set and will have to get it finished next weekend ,

i told him to run it in properly......................... :|

its not that it gets ragged all over the place, it is his commuter bike, so i think a four stroke 600 is on the cards, lol

BB,

Sorry to hear about the probs.

If he's not got a lot of money and isn't necessarily concerned about having the fastest bike on the block, tell him to get a Honda CB600F. Great engineering and it'll do 90% of anything that any other mid-range bike will do.

Of course, if he's got more money, he should get a Triumph TT600 or even go the whole hog and get a Street Triple!

I'm sure others will remind me that other bikes are available......

I have to say that I've really never understood the attraction of motorbikes. They have a fundamental design flaw. When you stop they fall over!!! :D

tru

but when going at speed all they want to do is stay up , as you have to make them go round corners

Sorry to hear of the problems but bikes are a great way of learning about mechanics.
I still have a tea chest full of oily parts that need work to become the Channai Chariot again. Its still too wet and cold in the garage, never mind, spring is around the corner.

Vince, how about this-

Now as you know I'm not into diesels but for this I'll make an exception....

The Napier Deltic....18 cylinders, 1650bhp, the "Deltic" class 55 locos used two.....

Lots more on YouTube, links on the right.
I used to travel on these to and from Durham when I was a student, but to see one thundering past at nearly a hundred miles an hour was an awesome sight.
