I have just bought a nice XJS facelift but the previous owner had put on a set of twin headlight conversions. I think they look awful personally so want to put the front back to standard. HAs anybody got a pair of complete headlight units and trims that you can sell me?
Cheers
Jez

Good luck with that one Jeremy!
As far as I know (certainly this used to be the case) facelift headlights haven't been available new for years, that's possibly why your car has the double lights fitted.
The last set of face-lift lights that I saw on eBay made really stupid money unfortunately.
It's a shame that the pre-facelift lights don't fit as I've got a couple of sets in the shed but have fitted double lights because I prefer them both aesthetically and because they give better light.
Good luck!

Thanks or the information Simon.
I think the main problem with mine is the fact that the chap before fitted prefacelift lights to a facelift car. The trims don't fit properly.
If they are that rare then a new set of twins will make it look better. SNG barrat have new kits available but are they any good? Are there any alternative sources?
I'm new to XJS ownership and will be on a steep learning curve!
Cheers

A warm welcome to the Forum.
Facelift headlights were unavailable for a long time, other than on the second-hand market and at a price. However Jaguar produced new stock about eighteen months ago and they were freely available, now the Jaguar Classic Parts website shows them as "contact us" which usually means not currently available. This seems strange in such a short time but I expect demand was high. It will be worth your while dropping them an e-mail to check that they have in fact sold out and if so when a new batch will be available - having tooled up for them I'm sure they'll be making more, especially if the initial run sold out so quickly.
Does your car have a twin headlight conversion or pre-facelift lights? The latter can be fitted to a post facelift car if the mounting brackets are also changed to match (unbolt existing, bolt in pre facelift brackets).
The price of post facelift lights secondhand on e-bay fell considerably when they became available again from Jaguar and they still come up on a regular basis, if you are prepared to wait I'm sure you can pick up a couple but check internal silvering is good. Remarks re brackets above apply.
Twin headlight conversions are recognised as giving superior lighting tho' I have obtained good results by fitting Philips X-Treme bulbs in post facelift lights. Personally I think they ruin the lines of the original design of which the Cibie headlights were an integral part.

SNG Barratt's were showing new facelift lights on their stall last time I saw them tho' quite expensive. (£300 plus a set). About the same as their twin conversion for facelift cars. I too have had a very good result using Phillips X-treme power bulbs in the original lights - still 60/55 W but an absolute revelation (literally) compared not only with ordinary bulbs but also with the Bosch ones which they replaced which claimed to be 30 - 50% brighter than standard. See www.powerbulbs . co .uk for an excellent on - line supplier. Paul.

Thank you all for the replies I've always found the JEC to be a great bunch of chaps and had many an hour trying to source bits for other Jags on here.
Unless its the light (excuse the pun) the one in the link looks a little dull on the silvering side.
What exactly is the difference in the lights to the pre facelift models?
Do I therefore need 2x light units, 2x headlight surround chromes and 2 light sframe holders in order to put it back to standard?

It's probably the pic, the guys at Swallows are OK, I'm sure if you ask them they'll tell you if it's not 100%.
Facelift lights can be adjusted by remote control from under the bonnet (adjusters are located on forward inner wings behind the lights and are operated by cables to the light mounting subframe - I presume you've just got two square holes there now?).
So yes, you need a set of all the bits you listed..............makes you wonder if it's worth it
Regards

Haha - apologies for the duff information - but I'm really glad that the lights are available again - that was potentially quite an issue for your facelift guys.
I hope you got all the bits you require, Jeremy!

I also use high output bulbs in face lift headlights and find them very good, certainly a match for my daily car which has HID lights.
You need to make sure they are correctly adjusted for dip, I found mine were a touch too low.
