Good job! Remember to be super careful when removing and refitting the wheels. Read up well on the airbag removal procedure. As you're not fitting the original wheel, you won't have the same reference point for the arming pin. Try and very carefully count the number of exposed threads on the original pin when the wheel is removed and set the new one to be in roughly the same position before fitting. Please be careful!

Thanks for your advice Paul. This will actually be the second time I've changed the steering wheel on this car, and don't worry, I made sure I knew exactly what was involved before attempting it!

The first time was because the indicators didn't self-cancel and the horn buttons didn't work (a separate button had been hacked into the column cowl many years ago by a previous owner). It turns out that the wheel was from an XJ40 so no wonder nothing worked!!
I fitted a standard leather XJS wheel to get things going whilst waiting for a reasonably priced Celeb wheel to turn up.

The arming mechanism on the wheel is nicely engineered and is a good example of Poka-yoke.
You can't access the 3rd bolt unless the pin is out far enough.
You can't close the flap completely unless the pin is in far enough.
The pin cannot be screwed in while the bolt cover is open.
