Update on M. I. J. exhausts

Had custom made cat back T304 stainless system fitted at Walsall on 08/01.2015.A very good service,looks well made and fitted securely, I choose a mid sport system which is rather loud but MIJ have offered to have a look at it and possibly rework it. Seems a good deal for less than £500 all in,I may have to pay a bit extra if they have to fit more silencers. Might be worth a look if you are thinking of a new exhaust.

I have a 60mm Miltek resonator-less system fitted to my V8 S-type. I had that done about seven years ago and when new seemed very loud compared to the OE system that was removed. What you are now experiencing is a form of cultural shock so your new system is likely to appear very loud compared to your old one. Fitting a sports system certainly changes the character of a car...no doubt about that.

Given a bit of time and mileage I think you will find the new system will quieten down somewhat as the baffles and internal parts become covered in oil and carbon. I`ve experienced that with my system.

There must be countless thousands of enthusiastic owners of cars who like to personalise their chariots with sports systems. They make a more soul stirring sound which unless virtually just a straight through pipe arrangement is unlikely to cause any offence on the highway. However Norfolk Constabulary are less encouraging as you might read here below. Bureaucracy and chapter and verse conspire to potentially ruin our fun as in this link. Insurance companies will accept louder exhausts as does the VOSA MOT test which relies on the testers own opinion as to whether the sound output is unsuitable for road use. As in so many things in life, there are plenty of contradictions especially where any governmental or agency involvement is concerned. One asks where this type of thing stops and starts. Add sports air filters, chip the ecu, uprate springs and dampers etc is also in the class of Type Approval non approved modifications to a vehicle. ....

Enjoy your exhaust as I have indeed done myself in the knowledge that i have also given huge pleasure to others who have also enjoyed the sound of a slightly tweaked Jaguar!

Thanks Mike k.You have given me some reassurance that the exhaust will quieten down in time. I have ordered a pair of DB buster baffles which are bolted into the tail pipes,I hope these will help.My neighbours have assured me that the exhausts are not too noisey and do not disturb them.
