high temp paint?

Postby masterb » Sun Apr 18, 2010 10:38 pm

i am about to fit my new/second hand exhaust system as in Nice stainless steel substitute pipes and a good condition mild steel centre section.
What i want to know is is there a paint i can use on the centre section mild steel to protect and rust proof it?
Is good old high temperature paint in say black, like you would use on an engine block etc do?

If 'Sperex' paint is still on the market it would no doubt do the job as it had a brief vogue on GP car exhausts when first introduced, (showing my age now). Another finish which I used on ex. pipes when building and competing in sporting trials cars was zinc metal spray. It had a quite pleasant light greyish finish and stood up well.

Cheers 4 post paul, i have looked on ebay and on wickes b&q etc.
There are quite a few paints out there in spray form that are good for 600 deg C and around 1100 farhenheit.
You can get a few different colours including black, silver and aluminium.
Might be other way round as i can never.

going to get some this afternoon.
