I have an AJ16 XJS and am considering a performance exhaust. I am aware of a system from AJ6 Engineering and Blue Flame have been mentioned in the latest JEC magazine. Has anyone had any experience of these systems?

I have the AJ6 on my car but it's a 1994 6.0. Happy with the quality and sound though......

KWE do one as well which is something I'm considering for my car- might be worth a look...?

I think that the standard non-cat version that I'd be interested in is about £1200 fitted. The one for you car with cats is more although the KWE exhaust doesn't need as many cats as the standard Jag exhaust being as we're not Americans.

You'll achieve the same result by replacing the centre boxes with substitute pipes. If your exhaust is in otherwise good order, don't waste your money on a new system.

It's late now, but still useful info.

I have a 3.6 and bought the full system from AJ6 (at £1000 !).

But I was shocked by the difference. It's so much more responsive mid range, I would say it was worth the outlay. AJ6 claim about 15bhp and it feels considerably more than that. I find I hardly have to use the shifter at all now.

Incidentally, I had a double exhaust tailpipes fitted too and they've really freshened up the rear end.

It sounds great, but there is a little more noise into the cabin. I wouldn't change it, but it's worth being aware of.

I've got a pair of stainless steel substitute pipes , but unfortunately they are up in the rafters of my garage awaiting fitting.
Ho Hum maybe one day soon.
Hopefully they will go nicely with my AJ6 engineering ecu.

My only concern with this type of replacement sports exhaust is any extra noise. I enjoy my Jaguar for quiet refined cruising, I would not want that spoiled by excessive boom from a sports exhaust.

I have contacted Blue Flame on this matter and they say that theirs is not that loud but it would be an expensive mistake to make. AFAIK at the moment there is not a standard replacement exhaust available so ultimately it may be Hobson's choice here

I fitted a sports exhaust to a V12 AM I owned a couple of years ago and it spoilt the enjoyment when cruising at motor way speeds it sounded like I had a moped in the boot made worse as my car was a convertible

But we all like different things, I would just suggest before fitting a sports exhaust you should drive one first.

The best solution for a slightly loud exhaust at motorway speeds etc, is a much louder stereo. Plus a luverly bit of fluff in the passenger seat, that should take your mind off of it.

Because the current system has been on for 14 years and is starting to show signs of its age. I have recently welded up 2 of the silencer boxes. At some point it will fail and then what do I replace it with?

I'm in a similar position to Steve.

Exhasut is starting to show its age, centre boxes have been welded once and may shortly be replaced with through pipes. I would like to just replace the components with similar spec and get the same sound. But what is/will be available, originals are getting scarce.

I live nr High Wycombe, if anyone's tempted to come and listen to my 'loud' AJ6 system they're more than welcome. I certainly have found the 'detriment' in cruising is well worth the extra noise at cruising speed.

I'm in Cornwall at the moment (after a 5 hour drive) and neither I, nor my wife (less forgiving let us say ), mentoined the noise. It's really no louder than the wind noise that gets into the cabin anyway (if you have a convertible, a lot less).

I repeat, you won't believe the extra power - in my 3.6 (let's face it underpowered) it's transformed the performance - to comfortable.

Be warned though, I can't prove that anymore, I've since had a 4 litre fitted.

I Know this post has not been addressed for some time however, I've just had the center boxes on my 1996 XJS 4.0 celebration coupe replaced with AJ6 through pipes and am very pleased with the results. Nice sound, not loud.
