This summer I took my HE coupe out to a friends bbq and I thought I'd top up the coolant before setting off. Opened the bonnet took the cap off filler her up. Took quite a bit of water which made me think...

Got to my mates about 1.5 hours away and as I entered his drive he pointed out that the jag was losing water from under the rad at an alarming rate. This was true. A friend was there who was a mechanic and he looked under the bonnet and started asking me questions. One was "where did you put the water?" I answered in the water tank, just there and I pointed to..... the expansion tank. The mechanic explained to me my error and we kept an eye on the water loss which eventually ceased, so we thought all was well and that there was some sort of overflow that had let the excess water out and had now reached the correct level. Well, after a few months and having had the system pressure tested for leaks (none found) I am still slightly concerned that something is wrong because the car is still making a small pool of water on the floor at the front of the engine.

Anybody offer an explanation?

And yes, I know I'm an idiot!

How did you pressure test? Did you check if the radiator caps were sound as well?
