Has anyone converted from rear inboard to outboard brakes and if so how difficult a job is it.

JWM have been running a series of articles refurbing the back axle and doing the outboard conversion over the last few months.

I am half way through a conversion, i am using xj40 parts but the best bet is to use the ultra rare xjs parts.
The trouble with xj40 parts is they went metric, so the bore diamiter of the pivot pin in the hub is 0.8mm smaller than an xj-s!
To solve this i have made spacer tubes in stainless.
The handbrake is a bit challenging too, the genuine xjs item had a lever on the axle cage which linked the existing handbrake cable to the two caliper cables, it looks reasonably straight forward to create such a device.
Then you need the right size spacer to replace the inboard brake disc and get the camber right.
Mr Bobic (class F racer extrodinare) uses the X300 items which are vented.
I have to say that for road use there is no real advantage, even in racing some people still use inboards. Obviousely outboard brakes are easier from the sercvicing point of view, but i would question the merrits of doing this to a road car.
But i suppose if i was that sencible about my mode of transport i might not have a 6litre race car! ]
